I Like To Think...

I like to think...
I like to think I'm beautiful.
I like to think sometimes I'm graceful.
I like to think I'm funny.
I like to think I'm smart.
I like to think I'm loyal.
I like to think I'm talented.
I like to think I'm loved.
I like to think I matter in some small way.
I like to think I'm successful at hiding my pain.
I like to think my depression does not control me.
I like to think the scars on my body tell a story.
I like to think I've overcome the hardest parts of my life.
I like to think if anything ever happened to me, I would be missed.
I like to think...
I like to think someday I'll find true love.
I like to think I'll make my parents proud.
I like to think I'll be successful someday.
I like to think I have a future.
I like to think I'll get out this city and state.
I like to think someday I'll travel the world.
I like to think I'll find what I'm searching for.
I like to think the words I write touch lives.
I like to think I make a difference.
I like to think I bring some modicum of happiness to others.
I like to think I'll learn to be a better person.
I like to think someone, anyone appreciates my quirks and oddities.
I like to think I'm worth something, anything.

A Sneak Peak

Soooo, as I have mentioned before I am slowly, and I do mean slowly, working on writing a book.  While I enjoy working on it, it is something that takes a lot of time and energy.  And with my schedule becoming more hectic due to work and looking at going back to school sometime in the near future, I have sometimes considered whether it was worth continuing.  So, just for the heck of it, I decided to share the prologue for my book.  If you know me, you should not be at all surprised to find that its filled with magical creatures and heroes and such.  Feel free to read and give your opinions and thoughts about it.  So, without further ado, I now present to the prologue of my book.  Enjoy!

The Journey Begins

As many people know, last month was National Novel Writing Month.  I'd heard about for a couple years but never participated mostly because I was a bit daunted by the idea of having to write 50,000 words in one month.  On top of that, I usually didn't have the time to just sit down and write or when I did have some free time, writing was not what I wanted to do.  This year, however, I decided to give it a go.  Years ago, back when I was still in high school, my two best friends at the time and I decided that we should each write a book.  In some ways they were similar because we were really into dragons and fairies and Japan at that time so they had those elements in it and then they also all revolved around three girls we based off of ourselves and our friendship.  I never got far with mine.  I would get a couple chapters in, give it to my friends to critique and then re-write parts of it with their suggestions.  I think the whole concept of the story changed at least three times.  It had been years since I'd even glanced at the manuscripts I had so I honestly didn't remember a whole lot other than the very general idea, which I still liked.  I had just never been able to find a way to go with it and write what I wanted to.

Starlight Tears

This is a poem I had come into my head as I got out of my car and then it just kept coming as I wrote it down.  I don't really write much poetry, but I'm actually quite proud of this one.

At the center of an island
Many oceans away
Where there is only night and never day,
A young maiden sits.
Her hair is pale as the moon
And her eyes as deep and dark as the heavens
She wears a stained white gown
And cries her starlight tears.

Her delicate fingers strive to scrub away the stains
The stains that mar the once pure white gown
But they never fade
Always there
Always a reminder
And she cries her starlight tears.
